The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life by Mark Manson

I heard the audiobook and I must admit the first chapter itself pissed me off. Repeating F*ck innumerable times doesn’t make it sound cool and unique. I wanted to leave it halfway but just to do justice to my audible credit I heard it all.

I have read/listened to a lot of self-help books and I did not find anything new or different in this one. Instead, it was the same thing repeated over and over again throughout. At one time the author says you are special and as you start trusting that you are special, it is being bluntly told you are a nobody. At a point it is all about don’t give a f*ck, there is no point in thinking positive, but the drama created towards the end contradicts it all.

Also, why the drama over the explanation of how it would feel if death is near. I did not get the point of creating the thrill over it and it was quite overstretched. People read self-help books to overcome stress or learn to deal with it. The way the last bit was narrated and dramatized someone who would attempt recreating the scene might put themselves in trouble.

The only thing I loved in this book is that when you are in a relationship you should not be worried about how to communicate without hurting them. Being truthful is the basis of any strong relationship.

Overall, I can say that there are way better books in the market that don’t exaggerate with a funky title or make overuse of slang; to sound different.

It is available on Amazon Kindle Edition, Audiobook, Hardcover, Paperback and MP3 CD.

  1. Finally someone resonated with what I felt while reading this book !! I really had stopped reading it midway (which I generally never do).
